Creating your first project

Every screenplay in Premiere.Studio lives inside a project. A project holds your script, its outline, version history, comments, and any production metadata. Here's how to get started.

Film vs. TV projects

When you create a new project, you choose a format:

FormatBest forDefault length
Film (Single Camera)Feature films and standalone screenplays120 pages
Short Film (Single Camera)Self-contained shorts told at the scale of one dramatic question25 pages (5 to 40)
TV Series (Single Camera)Hour-long dramas and single-camera shows50 pages
TV Series (Multi Camera)Sitcoms and multi-camera comedies50 pages

The format you choose determines your default page target and how the editor handles formatting details like act breaks and episode structure. You can always adjust the target page count after creating the project. A short film's target length is capped at 40 pages: the story guidance and outline density are tuned for that length, so a longer script belongs in a Film project.

Film or TV? Pick the one that fits your story.
If you're not sure, start with Film. You can always create a new project in a different format later. The choice mostly affects pagination defaults and whether the project lives inside a series or stands alone.

Creating a new project

  1. From the Dashboard, click the New Project button in the top navigation bar.
  2. Choose your format: Film, Short Film, TV Series (Single Camera), or TV Series (Multi Camera).
  3. In the creation form, enter a title for your project. You can also add an optional summary to remind yourself what the project is about.
  4. Adjust the target page count if the default doesn't fit your needs.
  5. Click Create Project. A film opens in the Editor; a TV series opens its series page.

A film project starts with a blank page, ready for you to write your first scene heading. If you wrote a plot summary and left Draft my outline with AI on, the AI proposes a first outline from it, and you review every card before it's applied.

TV series projects

When you create a TV series project, it appears as a series on your Dashboard. A series can hold multiple episodes, each with its own script. You can manage seasons and episodes from the series detail page.

Opening an existing project

From the Dashboard, click on any project card to open it in the Editor (a TV series opens its series page, where you pick an episode). Your most recently edited projects appear first.

If a project was shared with you by another writer, it will show up alongside your own projects. Shared projects are marked so you can tell them apart.

Project settings

Once you're inside a project, you can update its settings at any time:

Your work saves automatically
You don't need to manually save. Premiere.Studio saves your script continuously as you type. If you're connected to the internet, your work is also synced to the cloud. You can use Cmd+S (Mac) or Ctrl+S (Windows) to trigger an immediate save if you prefer.
