Script Reports

Script reports give you a quick summary of the key statistics about your script. They're useful for production planning, pitch documents, and agent submissions.

How to access reports

The status bar at the bottom of the editor shows your page count as you write, with an estimated screen time beside it. For more, open the Stats tab in the right panel. Its Full Report… button opens Script Reports, which you can also reach from the command palette (Cmd+K) by searching for "script reports." Script Reports has five tabs: Scenes, Characters, Locations, Cast and Representation.

What's included

Page count

The total number of pages in your script, laid out in your project's format the way the paginated preview lays it out.

Scene count

The Stats tab counts the scenes still in your script and leaves out any marked OMITTED. The Scenes tab in Script Reports lists every scene heading, OMITTED ones included, with its scene number, starting page, length in eighths of a page and the characters who speak in it.

Character list

The Characters tab lists every character with a dialogue cue, along with the number of scenes they speak in and how many lines of dialogue they have. This is helpful for understanding the size of your cast and how prominent each character is.

Estimated running time

A rough estimate of the finished film or episode's length, based on the industry rule of thumb: approximately one minute per page. A 110-page script is roughly a 110-minute film.

This is an estimate, not a guarantee. Dialogue-heavy scripts tend to run shorter per page, while action-heavy scripts may run longer. But the one-page-per-minute guideline is the standard the industry uses.

Using script reports

Production planning

These summaries help production teams understand the scope of the project. Page count and scene count feed directly into scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning.

Pitch documents

When submitting to agents, managers, or producers, they'll often want to know the page count and a brief character breakdown. Script reports give you this information at a glance.

Submissions

Many competitions, fellowships, and labs have page count requirements. Check your page count to verify you meet those requirements before you submit.

Exporting

Each Script Reports tab can be downloaded as a CSV file with the download button beside the tabs, ready to open in a spreadsheet. Reports are not part of the PDF export.

Keep an eye on your page count
Industry expectations for page count vary by format. Feature films typically run 90 to 120 pages. One-hour TV dramas run 50 to 65 pages. Half-hour comedies run 25 to 40 pages. If your script is significantly outside these ranges, it's worth considering whether it needs tightening or expanding.
